According to the report, the aviation ministry is targeting a five-fold increase in passenger trips to 1 billion per annum in the next 15-20 years. Ministry is planning to add 450 more aircrafts in the Indian skies. As of now, reportedly 550 aircraft are currently operating. The plan is to touch the 1000 mark. According to report, domestic air passenger crossed 100 million in 2017 and further added that the National Civil Aviation Policy 2016 has been unveiled to transform the aviation sector.

The Civil Aviation Ministry had launched the Regional Connectivity Scheme or UDAN to provide air connectivity to smaller towns and hilly terrains at affordable prices. The ministry claimed that the scheme has become a major success, taking the number of operational airports in the country to about 100.

On 28 May 30, 2018, Union Minister for Civil Aviation Suresh Prabhu reviewed the growth of airport infrastructure and called for preparation of a ‘Vision-2035’ document. Congestion at airports, runaways and airspace will be addressed; development of unserved and underserved airports; ways and means to boost the air connectivity to small cities and towns – thereby increasing revenues. This document will further provide a direction to the economic development in these areas in terms of job creation and cargo infrastructure development.

It looks like aviation industry is growing rapidly and can create more opportunities in the coming years. Stay tuned for more news
